“DR. JOSEPH S. DICKINSON, Trenton, is a native of Louisa County, Va., where he was born, January 1, 1827, and in 1831 removed to Todd County, Ky., where he grew to manhood, and has since resided.
His father, Rosco C. Dickinson, was born in Louisa County, Va., in 1802 and died here in1863. He was the son of Capt. Cole Dickinson, a gallant soldier in the war of Independence, who died in 1844, aged seventy years. Roscoe C.’s wife was Emily, daughter of Jesse and Mary (Boxley) Harris, of Louisa County, Va., and to them were born : Jesse C., subject, John R., Mary E. (Day), James R., William S., Spiller H., and Louisa V. (Reeves).
Dr. Joseph S. was married October 24, 1854, to Miss Martha G., daughter of Edmund Ware, of Todd County. She was born in 1836, and died in1876. To them were born: Howard R., Marietta (Bacon), Annie W. and William Joseph.
The Doctor was next married, October 15, 1878, to Mrs.Fannie M. Carroll, daughter of James Perkins, of Todd County, and to them was born one child — Philip G.
Dr. Dickinson commenced the study of medicine in 1847 with Dr. Runyan, of Trenton, Ky., and graduated in 1849 in the medical department of the University of Louisville, after which he was for ten years a partner of his preceptor. In 1851-52 he attended lectures at Jefferson Medical College, at Philadelphia. Dr. Dickinson has been successful in his practice, remaining in Trenton.
He owns 700acres of valuable land in good condition. He is a Granger, a member of the Baptist Church, and a Democrat.”
