“Baxter Ware, Memphis
On the threshold of a brilliant career as a lawyer at this bar, Baxter Ware saw his supreme duty upon him of serving as a soldier of America. Faithfully he took up his duty, loyal to that flag which now commands the reverent admiration of humanity. He laid down his life in France.
His promise was great, his fulfillment was excellent, and he died for duty.
‘Sweet is the sleep of those who for their country die.’ ”
