“Shortly after the publication of this circular, Mr. Preston Ware Jr., of Boston, who took a lively in interest in the approaching event, addressed an appeal to the Governors of several States soliciting contributions towards a special fund for a Governors Prize, which however alone, responded to by Gov. Garland of Arkansas, who presented a handsome Silver Cup to accompany the first prize, and the Cup, through not the prize, eventually fell into the possession of Mr. Ware. ”
