Yellow Fever in Montgomery

On examining the number of white females who lived, day and night, on the three most important streets of the city–Court, Perry and Madison–I find only seventeen to be recorded.  In fact, on Madison, only the Brittons, Michels and Harrisses remained.

With regard to the mortality, the Board of Health reports eighty cases of deaths by Yellow Fever.  To this permit me to add the following persons, who in my opinion, died of the same disease, notwithstanding the interment certificate given: …Julia Ware, …”

  1. The yellow fever and cholera epidemics that hit our country took the lives of so many including the Ware families. What a sorrow. However, these epidemics did bring medical research to successfully treat and control these dreaded diseases.
