“July 7 At a Court held for Fluvanna county on Thursday, the second day of July, 1795, present: Joseph Haden,Samuel Richardson, Robert Quarles Benjamin, Dr. Wells, Michael Atkisson, and Peter H. Ware, Gentlemen Justices.

This Court doth nominate to his Excellency the Governor, John Ware, Duncan McLaughlan, and Robert Quarles, Gent., sis proper persons to execute the office of Sheriff of this county; and doth represent that John Peyton, Gent., who stands in the commission of the peace as an older magistrate than Duncan McLaughlan, came into court and desired that he might not be named in the s’d nomination, urging for reason that he conceives himself entitled to the office of Sheriff.
