PROVIDENCE — Raymond Vester Ware of 4669 Walters Mill Road, Providence, NC died June 28, 2011 in Roman Eagle Memorial Home after an extended illness.
Born July 7, 1930, in Caswell County, NC, he was a son of James Emmett Ware and Bertha Gillespie Ware.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and The National Guard where he was mess Sergeant for many years. He was a member of the Retired Korean Warriors. He worked at A& P for over 25 years.
Raymond loved his flowers. He raised beautiful orchids and loved decorating the church with them. He was a faithful member of Providence Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and held other offices. He was a member of the Odd Fellows, the Stamp Club, The Sons of the American Revolution, the Scottish Rite Society, The Sons of the Confederacy, The Horticultural Society, the Dan River Philatelic Society, and the Danville Genealogical Society.
In addition to his parents he was also predeceased by a son William “Bill” Anthony Ware; three sisters Alice Ware Miller, Nettie Ware Bray, Viola Ware Bryson; and two brothers, Adrian Ware and Ralph Ware.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jean Pickeral Ware; a son Raymond V. Ware, Jr. and his wife Julie of Greensboro, NC; two daughters Lynette Ware and Annette Ware; a sister Sarah Ware Guthrie; six grandchildren, Katie W. Kloberdanz and her husband Jeremy, LCPL Benjamin Ware, Kevin Hine, Jeffrey Hine, Sophie Wae and Hayley Ware; and a daughter-in-law Carol Shumate Ware.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Friday, July 1, 2011, from Townes Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Lee Cook officiating. Interment will follow in the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery, 5762 Walters Mill Road.
The family will received friends Thursday, June 30, from 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at Townes Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
