PLAINVIEW - Essie Maie Ware Stevens, 75, died Saturday,
Sept. 9, 2006, in Lubbock.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Seth Ward Baptist
Church with the Rev. Jim Ritter officiating. Burial will
be in Plainview Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Stevens was born July 5, 1931, in Watonga, Okla.,
to James and Eva Goodman. She was raised in Roaring
Springs and California. She moved to Plainview in 1968.
She married Ray Ware on Jan. 3, 1948. He died on June 21,
1990. She married J.P. Stevens in 1992. He died on March
18, 1997.
She worked as a cook for several years at Hale Center
Senior Citizens and Hi-Plains Hospital. She also worked
as a private sitter for the elderly. She was a member
of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the American
Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was past president of the VFW
Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary and served as
an officer in the District Auxiliary.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers; and two
sisters.
Survivors include a daughter, Gail Cox and husband Jerry
of Plainview; four sons, James Ware and wife Lynette of
Rowlett, David Ware and wife Libby and Ronnie Ware and
wife Debra Lyons, all of Amarillo, and Randy Ware and
wife Jo Beth of Plainview; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great
-grandchildren."
