MOSBY Family Bible Records, 1765-1896 - Powhatan Co. VA

This is a transcription of a photocopy of the MOSBY family 
Bible records from the Virginia State Library and Archives, 
Richmond, VA. There appear to be three separate sets of records, 
each having a distinctly different border pattern on the 
pages. The three sets are referred to as "A," "B" and "C." 

Set "A" consists of two pages with printed borders and the 
numbers 677 and 678 printed at the top center of each page. 
One page is headed "FAMILY RECORD" with two columns headed 
"BIRTHS" and the other, "FAMILY RECORD" with two columns for 
"MARRIAGES." They are badly folded with pieces missing from 
the right and left edges. Parts of the border and some of the 
entries are on the missing pieces. Missing entries on the 
"BIRTHS" page were recopied from the left column to the 
right column. 

The three pages of set "B" also have printed borders but are 
not numbered. Each page is headed "FAMILY RECORD" with two 
columns headed "DEATHS," "BIRTHS" and "MARRIAGES." One page has 
a piece of the border missing. 

Set "C" is two pages of handwritten entries with no borders 
or other printing.

Mary Winston MOSBY died at Fenly Buckingham Co. on the 1st 
day of January 1847 aged 3 years 10 months and 11 days

Vectoria C. MOSBY daughter of Alfred & Verginia MOSBY died Oct 
1866 in Amherst Co Va

Melville Pinckney SHELTON died at Levingston, Sept. 21st 1877 
in the 36th year of his age.

Alfred D. MOSBY died Wednesday Feb 19th about 7 P.M. in the 
70th year of his age at his home in Bedford Co. Virginia. 

DEATHS [right column]

Frederick CABELL Sen died at Green Hill Buckingham, March 5th 
1841, in the 73d year of his age.

Sarah Syme CABELL died July 16th 1820, in the 16th year of 
her age.

Alice Winston CABELL died in infancy

Clifford CABELL died at Femley Sept. 18th 1871 in the 61st 
year of his age

Frederic Mortimer CABELL died at Strumon 1873. in the 71st 
year of his age.

Virginia Cabell MOSBY died at "Valley Farm" May 23rd 1874 about 
ten o'clock in the morning in the 62nd year of her age. 

John W. MOSBY died at Valley Farm, Dec. 28th 1875 in the 71st 
year of his age.

Mary Mildred CABELL died at Mt. Retreat March 3rd 1880 in the 
78th year of her age.

Carrington Winston MOSBY died 18 Dec 1896 at Farintosh? North 
Carolina. 

Huntington was living in Lynchburg Va

Ella Floyd MOSBY died in Charlottesville Va buried in 
Lynchburg

of New Kent early in the 18th century. Moved to Powhatan Co 
(then a part of Cumberland) Died there at his residence known
now as Old Cumberland Courthouse.

Benjamin MOSBY of New Kent married Mary POINDEXTER 
of New Kent early in the 18th century. Moved to 
Powhatan - then a part of Cumberland, & lived & died 
at his residence known as Old Cumberland Courthouse. 
He had sons & daughters; of these 1st Theodosia MOSBY 
married Col. Jos. CARRINGTON of Cumberland. Their 
children, Benjamin, William, Patty, Littleberry, Paul, 
Colin, Joseph, George. 2nd Littleberry MOSBY son of 
Benjamin MOSBY, Sr. married three times; 1st Elizabeth 
NETHERLAND by whom he had 8 children viz; 

Benjamin drowned in James River at Mt. Pleasant in 
Powhatan, unmarried.

John, died on his way to Kentucky at Red Stone, near 
Pitsburg, Pa: unmarried.

Sally, married Col. Wm. CANNON of Mt. Ida, Buckingham Co.

Mary, married Robert HUGHES of Hughes Creek, Powhatan.

Elizabeth Netherland MOSBY died at 18, unmarried.

LIttleberry MOSBY Jr. married 1st Elizabeth, daughter of 
Gen. Charles SCOTT; 2nd Mary Page 
HASKINS. 

Wade Sr. married Susannah TRUEHEART of Meadow Bridges, 
Hanover

Richard (-?-) married Mary VAUGHAN of Powhatan.

Children by second wife of Littleberry MOSBY, who was 
Judith MICHAUX.

Betsy Ann, married Benjamin CARRINGTON

(Patty married 1st Daniel SCOTT son of Gen. Charles 
SCOTT; 2nd (Robert NICHOLAS of Seven Islands,

Littleberry MOSBY's third wife was Martha THOMAS (née 
SCOTT) sister of Gen Charles SCOTT. no issue

Poindexter MOSBY, second son of Benjamin MOSBY, Sr. 
married (name of his wife not known) & left several 
sons and daughters. 

Clarissa MOSBY, his daughter, married Hugh FRENCH.

Daniel MOSBY, his son, left Powhatan Co. & moved to 
Nelson Co in the mountains.

John H. MOSBY, son of Daniel MOSBY, married Jane WARE of 
Goochland 11th April 1799

John Ware MOSBY son of John H. & Jane Ware married Virginia 
Paulina CABELL

Carrington Winston MOSBY son of John W. & Va. CABELL
