“Lebanon, NH – Dorothy (Leach) Ware, 92, of Harvest Hill, Lebanon, died Friday, March 18, 2011 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.

She was born in Concord, NH on Sept. 9, 1918 the youngest of three daughters of Judge Eugene W. and Katharine (Paige) Leach. She attended Concord schools and graduated from Westover School in Middlebury, CT in 1936. She then attended the Copley School of Design in Boston, MA.

She married Donald Ware on August 1, 1942 at her parents’ summer home, The Ledges, on Webster Lake, in Franklin, NH. While living in Concord, Mrs. Ware had been the chairman of and very active with the Red Cross Nurse’s Aides at Margaret Pillsbury Hospital. She had also been a member of the Jr. Service League, the Garden Club and the Flower Mission. She was also very active in her children’s lives, the leader of her daughters’ Girl Scout troop for several years as well as supporting her son’s Boy Scout Troop. Amongst her other activites, she found time to bus her children to music and art lessons, as well as multiple sports events.

Following twenty years in Concord, the Wares moved to New London in 1963. She resided in Sutton from 1980 until moving to Harvest Hill in Lebanon in 2003. While in the New London/Sutton area, Mrs. Ware had been a member and past president of the New London Hospital Auxiliary, and had been a member and former officer of the New London Garden Club. She enjoyed sports, especially cross country and downhill skiing as well as golf, tennis, hiking, walking and sailing. She never considered herself an artist or artistic but she was very accomplished at cutting wooden jigsaw puzzles, knitting, needlepoint, and oil painting. She enjoyed all children enormously.

She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Donald Ware, in 1997, two sons, Donald Ware, Jr. in 1948 and Malcolm L. Ware in 1986 and his infant daughter in 1984, and her daughter Natalie W. Ryherd in 2007. Surviving locally are her daughter, Patricia W. Schumacher of Hanover, NH and her granddaughter, Lauren B. Schumacher of Wilder, VT; four other grandchildren; five great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family and burial will be in Old Main Street Cemetery, New London, NH.
