“Elfriede J. Ware, age 85, of Rockwood, Mich., passed away Sun., Aug. 8, 2010 at Applewood Nursing Center, Woodhaven. She had been in declining health.

Elfriede was born Sept. 3, 1924 in Heilbronn, Germany to Wilheim and Rose (Remmlinger) Kleiner. She graduated from The University of Ulm, Ulm, Germany with her degree in nursing.

Elfriede worked for the International Red Cross in Germany for many years, then moved to Montreal, Canada to work.

She married Carroll Ware April 23, 1954 in Windsor, Ontario; they then moved to Michigan.

Elfriede was employed for over 25 years at Wyandotte Hospital, where she worked as a surgical nurse and a OBGYN nurse.

She enjoyed golfing, flower gardening and traveling with her husband.

Elfriede is survived by her husband, daughters Barbara (Scott) Ware of Detroit, Mich., Veronica (Abraham) Tokier of Palm Springs, Calif. and Angela (Mark) Hengel of Vista, Calif.; and grandson Matthew Hengel.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Helmutt and Martha.

Family and friends may gather from 3-8 p.m. Thurs., August 12, and 1-8 p.m. Fri., August 13, at Ford Chapel-Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, 23620 Huron River Dr., Rockwood, Mich. 48173, where services will be held at 12 noon Saturday. Chaplain Fred Cislo, staff celebrant, will officiate, with interment to follow at Michigan Memorial Park, Huron Township, Mich.

Contributions in Elfriede’s memory may be offered to The American Red Cross.
