“LaVar Austin Ware, 84, passed away on November 5, 2007, in the home he built in Orem, Utah. LaVar was born on April 15, 1923, his mother’s birthday, to OrLinda Nelson and Samuel Guy Ware in Mutual, Carbon County, Utah. He moved with his family to Orangeville, Emery County, Utah in 1934. He was one of 30 graduates of the class of ’41 from the old Central High School in Castle Dale. He married Ione Reid, also from Orangeville, on June 16, 1943, in the Manti LDS Temple.
They lived in Dragerton, Utah, while he worked in the mine’s office in Horse Canyon and Columbia, before returning to college, where he earned a B.S. Degree from Utah State Agricultural College in Range and Wildlife Management. Following graduation, he was employed by the Utah Fish and Game Department in public relations. He traveled throughout the state of Utah, visiting schools and sharing his passion of Utah wildlife with students through his films and lectures.
He retired after 33 years as the Central Regional Supervisor of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. He served as Adjunct Professor at Brigham Young University as a Wildlife Consultant. After retirement LaVar and Ione traveled in their trailer, enjoying good friends and taking wildlife photographs that he developed in his home darkroom. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving for many years as a Sunday School teacher and an excellent Scout leader.
He is survived by his wife Ione, his sons Wayne LaVar (Bonnie), Sandy, Utah; Philip (Carolyn), Salt Lake City, Utah; Gregory (Beverly), American Fork, Utah; and daughter Susan (Bob) Hawkins, Orem, Utah. He was a devoted grandfather to his 12 grandchildren, Jenny, David, Daniel, Aaron, Melinda, Natalie, Michael, Tammy, Sarah, Jacob, OrLinda, and CeCelia. He leaves behind 12 great-grandchildren, two younger brothers, Keith and Rue, of Orangeville, Utah. He was preceded in death by his older brother Bruce.
Funeral Services will be held Sat. November 10, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the Cascade Chapel at Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State St, Orem. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the mortuary and also 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the services on Saturday.
Weather permitting, a Brief Graveside Service will held at the Orangeville City Cemetery at 3:30 p.m.”
