“Funeral services were held in the Trinity Baptist Church of Oakdale with Rev Brian Johnson officiating. Military rites were by the Fort Polk Honor guards & American Legon Post 56.Buriel was in the Oak Hill cemetery Mr Ware was 82 years old. He was a deacon at Grand Avenue Baptist in South San Francisco, Cal, a retired Command Sergeant Major of the US Army .Retire of the San Francisco Police Dept, A choir director & Sunday School teacher,founder of the Food Bank Center at Trinity Baptist Church,Councilman ,treasure & Mayor Pro Temp of Oakdale,board member of Ft Polk retired Veterns Board. His parents,Sol & Lue Ware ,step-father R.C.Dial,one granddaughter ,second wife,Venita Ware and third wife Claudie Ware precedes him in death. He leaves behind wife Linda Mae Ragsdale Ware, two daughters Bonnie Freckman of Discovery Bay,Calif. Sheryl Landry. one son Ronald Ware of Discovery Bay, Calif. Six stepsons and one step -daughter,two half brothers,Huston Ware & Raymie Ware,four half sisters,Norma Jean Richmond of Oakdale,Theresa Clark of Turkey Creek,Buelah Ware & Verna Dial of Baton Rouge twenty eight grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.”

Funeral services for Vernon Ware will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 19, at Trinity Baptist Church of Oakdale with the Rev. Brian Johnston officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Fort Polk Honor Guard and American Legion Post 56. Committal services will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery under the guidance of White Oaks Funeral Home, Oakdale. Vernon, 82, of Oakdale, entered eternal rest Friday, April 16, 2010, in Oakdale Community Hospital. He was born on Dec. 13, 1927, in Oakdale to the union of Sol and Louisia Buxton Ware Dial. Mr. Ware was a deacon at the Grand Avenue Baptist Church in South San Francisco, a retired command sergeant major of the U.S. Army, retiree of the San Francisco Police Department, choir director and Sunday school teacher at the Trinity Baptist Church and founder of the Food Bank Center at Trinity Baptist Church, where they provide food for hundreds of local families. He served eight years as an Oakdale city councilman as well as the treasurer and mayor pro tem of Oakdale. He was a member of the Fort Polk Retired Veterans Board and sold a million poppies to help in the construction of the new American Legion building, as well as being an active member of the VFW Oakdale Chapter. His parents; stepfather R.C. Dial; a granddaughter; mother and father-in-law, Lorene and Homer Ragsdale; second wife, Venita Ware; and third wife, Claudie Ware, preceded him in death. He leaves behind his loving family to cherish his memory; wife, Linda Mae Ragsdale Ware, of Oakdale; two daughters, Bonnie Freckman and husband, Les, of Discovery Bay, Calif., and Sheryl Landry and husband, Charles, of Livonia; a son, Ronald Ware, of Discovery Bay; six stepsons, Doug Seybold and wife, Julie, of Sacramento, Calif., Darrell Seybold and wife Cassie, of Tyler, Texas, Larry Ware and wife, Rose, of Oakdale; Ronnie Ware and wife, Susan, of Greenville, S.C., Eddie Ware and wife, Vicki, of DeRidder, Don Ware and wife, Patsy, of Woodworth; a stepdaughter, Darlene McDaniel and husband, Keith, of Oakdale; two half-brothers, Houston Ware and Raymie Ware; four half-sisters, Norma Jean Richmond, of Oakdale, Theresa Clark, of Turkey Creek, Buelah Ware and Verna Dial, both of Baton Rouge; 28 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers to serve will be Don Ware, Jeremy Ware, Aaron Ware, Chad Mitchel, Trevin Ware and Joe Giroir. Honorary pallbearers to serve are Vernon Powell, Bill Billings, Roy Gordon, Ralph Stapleton, Mike Baham and Cleve Whitstine. Friends may call on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Legion Oakdale Chapter, P. O. Box 363, Oakdale, LA 71463.
