Jimmie W. Ware Obituary, 2009

“Jimmie W. Ware, loving husband, daddy, and papa, passed away on February 4, 2009. Jimmie was born on November 5, 1916, in Chilton County, Alabama to Joe Belle Fox and grew up on his granddaddy’s farm. He loved to tell stories of getting up before day, milking the cows, feeding the pigs, gathering the eggs, and – in season – picking 100 pounds of cotton before walking 5 miles to school. Whether that a tale or not, he was a hard worker of humble means but a compassionate and generous heart who genuinely loved his family, his friends, and life in general.
Jimmie met and married the love of his life and wife of 69 years, Susie Louise Turner (deceased July 28, 2008) and they had five children: James Robert Ware (Bobby, deceased September 3, 2007), Joanne Byrd, Wilma Shortall, Todd Ware and Wayne Ware.
After a 32-year career at St. Regis Paper Company, Jimmie returned to the -home place- in Alabama to fulfill his dream of farming, raising cattle, motor-homing, and maintaining a catfish pond where Susie could “catch a mon-A ster anytime.” Jimmie loved the farm, but his desire to make Mama happy by being near their children, six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren initiated the move back to Pensacola in 2000.
Jimmie loved people and animals (especially Susie’s cat Lucky) and over the years gathered many into his family fold: Charlotte Albritton Bradley, Jason Ware, Christopher, Allison and Audrey Shortall, and many other special people who shared in the lives of his children and grandchildren. His granddaughters Jamie DuBose and Vicki Womack were proud to share the “Daddy’s Girl” arena as well as great granddaughters Jade Ware, Kelly Lockett, Erica Ehlers, and Samantha Byrd. He had a way of making people feel special and he adhered to the rule, “never go no place that doesn’t treat you special.”
‘The very best measure of success for any man is not to be charted by the work he has done in the world, but by the accomplishments he has made as a father’ – And Jimmie Ware was a success! ‘For the times you held us, for the tears you dried; For the laughter you inspired and the wisdom you shared, Thank you, Dad!’ We will remember his death with regret but his life shall be forever embraced with joy!
