“Storer P. Ware, Jr., a resident of Roanoke since 1949, died at age 82 on April 11. Born in Hingham, Mass., he graduated Harvard University in 1932. During World War II, he served as British Vice-Consul in North Carolina and was secretary and assistant treasurer of the North Carolina Shipbuilding Company before entering the Marines as a First Lieutenant. After moving to Roanoke, he established his own investment firm and retired in 1990. He helped organize the Roanoke Republican party and was past president of the Roanoke S.P.C.A., the Roanoke Fine Arts Center, the Roanoke Broadway Theater League and the Virginia Golf Association. He was also a director of the Roanoke Chapter of the American Red Cross and Regional Director of the Boy Scouts of America as well as a member of the Roanoke Rotary Club for forty years.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Patterson Ware; a son and daughter-in-law, Preble and Paula Ware, Tempe, Ariz.; a daughter, Lisa Gauthier, Oakland, Calif.; his grandchildren; brother, Abbot Ware, Alexandria; two sisters, Nancy Cutler, Dedham, Mass.; Ruth Warner, Lincoln, Mass.; two stepchildren.”
