Susie Turner Ware Obituary, 2008

“Susie Turner Ware was born in Bon Secour, Alabama, on June 11, 1921 to Will and Eva Turner. She moved to Pensacola at a very early age and grew up in the Beulah and Walnut Hill areas. On August 25, 1939, She married Jimmie W. Ware and for almost 69 years flourished in her lifetime career as a homemaker. Mother of five children, the eldest James Robert Ware, died September 3, 2007. Susie reared her children by the old-time methods of honesty, respect, obedience, and tough love.
Surviving children are Joanne Byrd (Jimmy), Wilma Shortall, M. Todd Ware, and D. Wayne Ware. She has six grandchildren, Jamie DuBose, Wade Byrd, Travis Byrd, Vicki Abbott, Richard Ware, Shane Ware and twelve great grandchildren, and many, many “daughters, sons and grandchildren” from the neighborhood, extended families or friends of her children, with whom she shard her generous hospitality.
She was a simple, quite woman, but strong in spirit and determination. She loved sports, cooking, flower gardening, and here precious cat “Lucky”. Some of her favorite pastimes were visits with her sister and best friend, Faye Price (Pensacola) and brother Gadis Turner (Cassatt, SC). She often spoke with her brother Bill Turner of Navota, CA, sister Ilene Hall of Houston, TX. And brothers David and Hilton Turner of Pensacola.
Predeceasing Susie were her parents, a brother Jack Turner, and son “Bobby.” She was a wise and virtuous woman-“her price far above rubies”-whose home was indeed her haven.
Susie spent her last 54 days in the ICU at West Florida Hospital under the care of Doctors Michael Oleksyk, John Gage, Jack Fabian and their special medical staff. The family is indeed grateful for their exceptional professional care and especially the sweet-spirited individuals who touched her with kindness and true concern. Jimmy and children appreciate so very much the members of Olive Baptist Church, as well as our friends, co-workers, and others, who prayed, visited, during this time of sorrow.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am. on Thursday, July 31, 2008 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North-Cantonment with Pastor Eugene Steele officiating. Interment will follow at Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens.
Serving, as pallbearers are Wade Byrd, Travis Byrd, Shane Ware, Cory Lovelady, Casey Ware and Cameron DuBose. Honorary pallbearers will be Brandon Ehlers, Dewey Loveland, Van Price and Chris Thomas.
