JACKSON CENTER – David R. Ware, 63, of Jackson Center, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at his residence.

He was born on Sept. 24, 1947, in Sidney, the son of Duane E. and Doris A. (Yost) Ware.

On July 26, 2007, he married Jan Bruns, who survives along with his daughter, Cary (Peter) Masteller, of Columbus; his brothers, Don (Rita) Ware, Doug (Peg) Ware, Dana (Dianne) Ware, all of Jackson Center; his sisters, Diana (Jim) Reese and Denise Ware, both of Jackson Center; his step son Tim (Lorie) Bruns, of Sidney; his step daughter, Jennie Freeman and her friend Dale Feazel, of Sidney; his grandsons, Andrew and Jackson; his step grandchildren Heidi, Ashlie and Tyler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dave enjoyed golf, traveling and playing cards. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Jackson Center American Legion Post No. 493 where he served as an adjutant and was a volunteer with Shelby County Special Olympics. David retired in 2000 from Jackson Center Schools as an Industrial Arts Teacher. Following that, he worked in Career Development at Tolles Career and Technical Center in Plain City until 2010.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dave truly loved his family and many friends and especially delighted in spending time with his grandchildren Andrew and Jackson. Dave’s passion in life was teaching and spending time in the school class room. He was greeted with “Hi, Mr. Ware” wherever he went by his many beloved students.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday between 2 and 8 p.m. in the Jackson Center United Methodist Church. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, in the church with Rev. Sylvia Hull officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cemetery in Port Jefferson.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Vernon Funeral Home, Urbana, in the care of Mark Harrod, a family friend.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Jackson Center American Legion, Jackson Center Life Center or Jackson Center Education Foundation.

  1. I am a friend of David from when he lived in.Columbus. I was trying to find him to say hello and was so upset to see he had passed. He was a good friend to me at a time I really needed one. I’m.so sorry for his family and friends.Last time I talked to him he had gotten married and his daughter had a son. He was a.good man.
