Karl Ellis Ware, 85, of Rocky River died September 5 after a courageous battle against Alzheimer’s disease. Beloved husband of 59 years of Nancy Reese Ware; devoted father of Karla Reese Ware (L. William “Chip” Erb); son of the late Clyde and Lucy Garforth Ware; brother of the late Clyde H. Ware and the late Ronald W. Ware. As star catcher on the varsity baseball team at Rocky River High School, he received an offer to join the Boston Red Sox organization, but turned it down to finish his education, graduating in 1944. During World War II, he joined the United States Navy as a V-5 aviation officer candidate. He graduated from Miami University with a degree in mathematics in 1948 where he was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon. He was admitted to the Ohio Bar after receiving a Juris Doctor degree from Cleveland-Marshall Law School in 1959. He retired as Vice Chairman, Chief Operating Officer, and director of White Consolidated Industries, Inc. and was the former owner of Elyria Spring and Specialty Company. An avid golfer, he was a member of Westwood Country Club for 52 years, serving on its board of directors, and belonged to Royal Poinciana Golf Club in Naples, Florida. He was a former member of Firestone Country Club serving on its Board of Governors, The Pepper Pike Club, and the Union club. He served on the board of directors of the Lubrizol Corporation, Oatey Company, LESCO, Inc., Pioneer-Standard Electronics, Society Corporation and Society National Bank, Acme-Cleveland Corporation, Clark Consolidated Industries, Van Dorn Company, United Way, Beck Center for the Arts, The Lakewood Hospital Foundation, and as an elder of Rocky River Presbyterian Church. No Visitation. Private interment at Lakewood Park Cemetery.
