“Wilbur L. “Bill” Ware, age 83, of Lancaster, died peacefully, Thursday, August 13, 2009 at the Lancaster General Hospital.

Born in Lancaster he was the son of the late Wayne and Vera Patton Ware. Bill was the husband of Jean E. Ackerman Ware; they were married May 22, 1948. He worked for 20 years, until his retirement, as the Operations Manager for the Millersville University Computer Center.

Bill was a member of St. Andrew United Church of Christ, Lancaster, where he served as an Elder and on the church board, and also helped with the church newsletter. He was a US Navy Veteran of WWII. Bill was a graduate of Thaddeus Stevens School of Technology. He was a sports enthusiast, whose favorite sport to watch with his wife was golf. Bill loved to spend time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by a son: Michael husband of Rebecca Ware of Hindman, Kentucky, a daughter: Pamela wife of Randolph Carney of Lancaster, 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 2 nieces. He was preceded in death by a brother: Wayne Ware, Jr.

A funeral service for Bill will be held Monday, August 17, 2009 from St. Andrew United Church of Christ, 701 North Lime Street, Lancaster, at 2PM (Viewing 1-2PM) with the Reverend Robert Hunsicker and Reverend Michelle E. Armster officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Bethel Cemetery, Columbia. Please omit flowers. Contributions in Bill’s memory may be made to: Humane League of Lancaster County, 2195 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster, PA 17602. Arrangements by: Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc., Columbia/Landisville.”
