John Philip CLUM was b. 1 Sep 1851 nr Clavarack, Dutchess Co. N.Y. He d. 4 May 1932 southern CA, perhaps in or near San Dimas. He was one of 10 children of William Henry CLUM and Elizabeth VAN DEUSEN. John was grs/o Philip CLUM and Jane SHUFELT. John was great grs/o William CLUM and Elizabeth FRITTS.
John m1. Mary Dennison WARE, 8 Nov 1876 Delaware OH. Mary was niece of one time Gov. of OH Wm DENNISON. Mary was said to have died Dec. 1880 of childbirth on the Apache Indian Reservation, yet John was listed on 1880 census without a wife at Tombstone AZ.
Their only child who lived to adulthood was Henry Woodworth CLUM.

“Mrs. John P. Clune” is actually Mrs. John P. Clum, married to the famous Indian Agent for the San Carlos Reservation in Arizona. Evidently, her name was delivered handwritten to the Gazette and mis-read as “Clune” rather than Clum. Mrs. John P. Clum’s maiden name was Mary Dennison Ware.
