Nathaniel Ware, Caroline Co. VA, 1848 — 2 Comments
There is no discoverable name or marriage certificate for Nathaniel Ware’s first wife, with whom according to his will (see Gallery) he had three children: Amy, Nancy, and Nicholas.
His second wife may have been an Elizabeth “Betsy” Elliott Guy, daughter of William G. Guy. There are no documents on her marriage to Nathaniel. However, William G Guy’s son also appears to have married Nathaniel Ware’s daughter, Nancy, who was born by Nathaniel but with a former wife.
This is probably why in Nathaniel’s will he refers to Nancy has having “intermarried” with George F. Guy. I continue to search for proof as most of Nathaniel’s children mentioned in his will were born before his marriage to his third wife, Ann George Scott, which is documented as being in 1836.
Last, in his will states that Nathaniel and John are his two youngest sons.
Nathaniel Ware, Sr. (1777-3/22/1848) was born in Caroline, Virginia (his other siblings were born in Kentucky) and died there in 1848. Missing out on the excitement of the French and Indian War, Nathaniel lived during the time of the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812.
He married an unknown 1st wife believed prior to 1800 and with whom he had three children . His second wife may have been Elizabeth “Betsy” Elliott Guy (8/29/1786- Before 1836) which he married in about 1818 in Virginia; and, after her death, married Anne George Scott (3/16/1792-4/23/1858) daughter of John and Lucy Scott on 4/11/1836 in Caroline, Virginia.
His will of February 1844 was made available to the court and recorded on 5/8/1848. It names his wife Ann G. Ware (maiden name Scott); 3 children mentioned as being from his first marriage: Nicholas, Nancy (deceased, wife of George F. Guy) and Amey, and; names a son Edwin, and underage children Frank, Sarah, Nathaniel and John. Executrix/executor: Ann G Ware and Francis W Scott (a son of John Francis Scott [1762-2/19/1822] and brother of his third wife).
