John W. Ware Obituary, 1999

Died May 24, 1999, at Central Peninsula General Hospital in Soldotna. He was 82. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Kenai Christian Church in Kenai. The Rev. Herb Shaan and the Rev. Dick Jergensen will officiate. Mr. Ware was born March 5, 1917, in Angeline, Mo., where he was raised and graduated from high school. He joined the U.S. Army on April 11, 1941, and was stationed in Glennallen in 1942 until his honorable discharge on Dec. 10, 1945. Mr. Ware resided on Kodiak Island for nine years until he homesteaded in Kenai on July 1, 1960. He lived in North Kenai for the last 39 years. Mr. Ware was a member of the VFW of Soldotna Post #10046, Pioneers of Alaska and the Masonic Lodge in Salem, Mo. His family wrote that Mr. Ware worked a variety of jobs but spent most of his time as a professional gambler. He enjoyed and was very interested in politics and government. The family said, ”His life was his family, and he deeply loved his grandchildren.” Mr. Ware is preceded in death by his daughter, Donna. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Margaret Ware of Kenai; sons, Roger of Kenai, Dean of Sitka, Lance of Kenai, and Brandie of Kenai; daughter, Susan of Anchorage; and grandchildren, Kona of Idaho, Jessica and Deana of Sitka, David, Joel, Callie, Frieda and Ancel of Kenai, and Robert, John, Jeremiah, and Sheldon of Anchorage. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to a favorite charity. Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapels.
