Former Anchorage and Valdez resident Vivian “Petie” L. Ware, 81, died Nov. 9 in Mesa, Ariz., where she resided for the past 20 years. Mrs. Ware was born April 26, 1912, in Bismark, N.D. As a young woman, she came to Valdez and moved to Anchorage in the early 1940s and married Wayne Ware, a retired Alaska Railroad locomotive engineer. While residing in Anchorage, she worked for Alaska Fur Factory, owned Lane’s Apparel and later retired from the Anchorage School District as a baker at West High School. She enjoyed salmon fishing and painting. While in Anchorage, she was a member of Eastern Star and served on the Booth Memorial Board. Mrs. Ware was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her stepson and his wife, Jerry and Judy of Anchorage; and three grandchildren in California and Missouri. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a star be purchased for the Hospice Tree.
