AUGUSTA — Walter C. Ware, 92, of Augusta, formerly of 9 Macomber Ave., passed away on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, at the Maine Veterans Nursing Home in Augusta after a long illness. He was born on May 5, 1912, in Gorham, a son of Phillip and Melvina (Pooler) Ware. He was a veteran, having served his country in the Army during World War II. He worked as a truck driver for 22 years, retiring in 1975. He loved going to the horse races and telling jokes with his close friends who were with him until the very end. He also kept up on current events around him. He was predeceased by his companion, Letena Mudge, who died on Dec. 26, 2004. He is survived by one daughter, Frances Parkman and her husband, John, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and some really great friends. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 24, at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive in Augusta with the Rev. Richard St. Cyr officiating.
