Mary Evelyn Ware Abney, 95, of Winchester, widow of Vernon C. Abney Sr., passed away Saturday at her daughter’s home in Indiana. A native of Powell County, she was born May 23, 1917, to the late Killis and Dora William Ware. She was retired from the Clark County Hospital. She is survived by her children, Dallas and Gladys Abney, Vernon C. and Barbara Abney Jr., Carl and Ann Abney, Dorothy and Jim Easterly, Sue Johnson and Darla Abney and Thomas G. Cox; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Danny D. Johnson. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Rolan G. Taylor Funeral Home, 289 S. Main St., with the Rev. James Estes officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Winchester Cemetery. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
