CHICAGO – William F. Ware, 37, Mayor Harold Washington’s chief of staff, died Thursday. Ware died at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City of what the mayor’s office described Friday as complications of pneumonia. Ware served in Washington’s 1983 mayoral campaign and was appointed chief of staff when the mayor took office. Washington’s office said Ware had been at Sloan Kettering since May 9 and had been suffering from an intermittent illness for some time.
