Mrs. Gladys Elise (Miller) Ware, 99, of Fort Smith, died May 19, 2015 in Little Rock. She was the wife of the late Dr. Prentiss E. Ware, an Oral Surgeon who practiced many years in Fort Smith. Gladys was born in Westminster, TX to the family of Rev. W.O. and Mary Minton Miller. After graduation from Ball High School in Galveston, TX, she attended Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, and earned double bachelor degrees in science and home economics. She attended graduate school at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, where she was an honor fraternity member of Kappa Delta Pi. She then taught home economics and science three years at McLoud Consolidated High School before serving as Home Service Director for the Arkansas Division of Oklahoma Gas and Electric. In addition, she taught food and nutrition at University of Central Arkansas (UCA) in Conway.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Gleaners Sunday School Class, serving on many boards and committees. She was an active member of Chapter F, P.E.O., was past President of Sparks Hospital Guild, served two terms on the board of the Fort Smith Public Library, and she held various offices on the local, district, and state levels of the Arkansas Dental Auxiliary.
Memorial Service will be 11:00 AM Friday, May 22, 2015, in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church, with private burial in Roselawn Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service.
She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Ware Phillips and her husband Wes and Janelle Ware all of Tulsa,OK; two sons, Gaylon Ware and his wife Maureen of Little Rock, and Byron Ware and his wife Linda, of Fort Smith; three grandchildren, Ashley Scott of Arlington, TX, Kevin Ware DVM, of Little Rock, and Katie Ware PhD of Durham, NC; three great-grandchildren, Braden Scott and twins Devan and Ethan Scott of Arlington, TX; two sisters, Roberta Youts of Santa Fe, NM and Melba Shepherd and husband Otis of Mobile, AL. Extended family members are; Chris and Christina Galloway, Ashley and Caleb of Greenbrier, AR, and Justin and Angie Epker, and Abigail of Dallas, TX.
