Darryl Ann Monroe, age 71, of Oshkosh, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Aurora Medical Center after an extended illness. Darryl was born on February 5, 1942, in Oshkosh, the daughter of Raymond and Henrietta (Hibbard) Ware. She had fond memories of growing up on the Southside, especially spending days at the Wigwam and the Mode Theater.
Darryl’s true calling was being a wife and mother. She married Bill in Pine River on March 4, 1961, and they were blessed with seven children. She had a generous spirit, and loved kids big or small, whether her own or someone else’s. As the master of baked apple slices, deviled eggs, kraut kuchen, and cut out cookies, Darryl made sure everyone had their favorite treat. The backyard birds and her beloved pets were treated with tender care as well. Each of her grandchildren had a special spot in her heart, and must have thought at some time “Grandma loves me the most!” She truly exemplified the golden rule. Her concern was always for others. Most of all she was happiest when surrounded by the family she loved so well, whether at the beaches of the Outer Banks, the casinos from Green Bay to Las Vegas, or one of many (almost weekly!) family gatherings.
Darryl was a dear wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be lovingly remembered by: husband, Bill; children, Bill (Anne), Scott (Cathie), Tracy (Rob) Burdick, Michael (Shelly), Jayson (Lori), Jeffery, Jennifer (Bart) Dahl; grandchildren, Megan, Erin (Tom), Sarah, Jordan, Joseph, Eli, Amanda, and Eric. Darryl is further survived by her sister, Gordon Rae Lund; brother, Forrest Van (Beverly) Ware; and sister-in-law, Haru Ware; special friends, Jack and Judy Golz, Mike Kaelin; numerous nieces, nephews, and other dear friends and family members.
Darryl was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Warren “Wow” Ware, sister, Virginia Mae McKenzie, brothers-in-law, Allen Lund and Edward McKenzie, and honorary Grandma, Casey Gray.
