Mamie Ware

Mamie J. Ware, age 100, of Portland, N.Y., formerly of Fredonia, N.Y., died Monday September 14, 2015 at the home of her daughter in Portland, New York. She was born on July 11, 1915 to Cosimo and Josephine (Mancuso) Gugino. Mamie was a graduate of Fredonia High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY Fredonia. She taught second grade and retired in 1980 from the Fredonia Central School system. She formerly resided on Liberty Street in Fredonia.

Mamie was active with the St. Lucy’s Society, AAUW, and other civic and social clubs. She was an avid bridge player, liked to sew, knit, read, garden, and enjoyed time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are two daughters: Joanne Ware Cunningham and JosephineWare Lantz; grandchildren: David (Sarah) Cunningham and Sharon (Adam) Cunningham Thompson; Andrew Lantz and Joseph Lantz; great–grandchildren: Sean and Jacob Cunningham; Taylor, Avery and Connor Thompson; also sister-in-law Mary Gugino and several nieces and nephews.

Mamie is predeceased by: her husband, Casimir A. Ware who died October 10, 1964; four brothers: Augustine Gugino (late Florence), Dr. Anthony Gugino , Carl Gugino and Joseph Gugino (late Irene); and her son-in law Richard Lantz.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony’s Church,

(Corner of Orchard & Cushing Sts.) Fredonia, Saturday September 19, 2015 at 10 am.

There is no prior visitation. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Portland Volunteer Fire Department, 6481 W. Main Street, Portland, N.Y. 14769.
