Marie Lois Gardner Elrod Ware, 83, Independence, died Thursday, May 21, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.
Mrs. Ware was born June 7, 1914, in Harrisburg, Ark., and had lived in St. Louis and Janesville, Wis., before living in Lake City, Ark. She was residing with her daughter in Independence at the time of her death. She was an active member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where she served as church hostess, Sunday school teacher and in the women’s department. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Eugene H. Elrod.
Her survivors include her husband, Bill Ware of Lake City, Ark.; her six children, James Elrod, Franklin Elrod and Gary Elrod, all of Janesville, Wis., Lois Shikles, Independence, Robert Elrod, Chicago, Ill., and David M. Elrod, Kansas City; a brother, Cad Gardner, Truman, Ark.; two sisters, Hattie Williams Dudley, Wiener, Ark., and Sylvia Barnes, Truman; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 4 p.m. Sunday at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 4242 S. Chippendale, Beloit, Wis. Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Oak Hill Cemetery, Janesville. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the church. A celebration of family and friends will take place immediately following the service at the church. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials in her name may be made in care of Marilyn Zimmerman, 1123 Lincoln Ave., Beloit, Wis. 53511. Arrangements are under the direction of the Whitcomb Funeral Home, 220 S. Academy St., Janesville.
