FIND A GRAVE Mary Emma Ware O’Bannon Birth: Feb. 24, 1897 Fredericktown, Madison County, Missouri, USA Death: Jul. 3, 1949 Walnut Creek, Contra Costa County, California, USA Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 6, 1949, for Mrs. Mary E. O’Bannon, the former Mary Emma Ware, of Fredericktown, at the Guy & Blackwell Mortuary in Walnut Creek, Calif. Mrs. O’Bannon passed away suddenly at the age of 52 years, four months, two weeks and two days, on July 3d at Permanente Hospital in Oakland, Calif., following a stroke. She had been in ill health for several months. She was born on Feb. 24, 1897, at Fredericktown, Mo., the second daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Isham W. Ware. After her graduation from the Fredericktown High School in 1915, she attended Southeast Missouri Teachers’ college at Cape Girardeau. She then taught school at Sikeston, Bertrand, Loughboro and Leadwood. On April 19, 1924, she was married to Virgil E. O’Bannon, of Knob Lick, Mo., at St. Charles, Mo.; and the couple settled in St. Louis where Mr. O’Bannon was an employee of the post office. To this union was born one son, Paul Ware, on Dec. 29, 1931, in St. Louis. In October, 1945, the family moved to Walnut Creek, Calif., where Mr. O’Bannon was transferred by the Postal Service. On June 19th, the Sunday following her son’s graduation on Thursday from Acalanes Union High School at Walnut Creek, she had a stroke and was immediately hospitalized at Permanente. Although her entire left side was paralyzed, she was apparently improving until a second stroke two weeks later proved fatal. She leaves to mourn her untimely passing, her husband; her son, Paul, and three sisters, Nellie (Mrs. T.G.) Casey of Concord, Calif.; Lela (Mrs. J. H) Bone of San Leandro, Calif. and Maude (Mrs. R. L) Hornbeck, of Berkeley, Calif., as well as a number of other relatives. Interment was at the Alamo Cemetery, four miles south of Walnut Creek, in the beautiful San Ramon Valley. Dr. Gerrit Verkuyl of the Danville Presbyterian Church, officiated at the services. Those from other places who attended the services were Mr and Mrs. J. H. Bone of San Leandro, Calif., T. Q. Casey, of Concord, Calif.; Mr and Mrs. Hugh L Williams, of Rockaway Beach, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Dan O. Rumer, of San Francisco, Calif., and Mrs. and Mrs. Jesse Green, of Livermore, Calif.
