Peter J. Ware, 91, a resident of Poughquag, NY since 1994 and formerly of Garrison, NY, died on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Born in Garrison, NY on August 24, 1923, he was the son of the late Edgar and Dora Ware. He was a 1942 graduate of Kent School, where he met his wife of 70 years, Jane Burgess Julier Ware. A veteran of the US Army, 10th Mountain Division during World War II, he served as a Technical Sergeant in Company I, Mountain Infantry and was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. After the war, he attended Colorado State University graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering.
Peter worked for the Southern California Gas Company and then moved east where he was employed by IBM in East Fishkill until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of the Garrison Volunteer Fire Department, a founding member of the Garrison Volunteer Ambulance Corps and active in the Boy Scouts of America.
In addition to his wife, Peter is survived by his children, Peter J. Ware Jr., and Mary S. Cervantes of Carbondale, CO and Susette M. Fehrmann of Charlestown, RI; 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11am at the Kent School Chapel, 1 Macedonia Rd, Kent, CT followed by interment in the Kent School Cemetery with military honors.
