REDDING – Lucile Ware Hughes, age 104, died peacefully June 22, 2008 at Hallmark North in Redding, CA. Born May 26, 1904 in Guyman, OK, she moved at young age with her family to Oroville, CA where she attended school and met her future husband, Jack Hughes. After their marriage the couple moved to southern California but returned to Oroville after 2 years and later lived in Artois and Los Molinos. Eventually they moved to Petaluma where they raised their 2 daughters. Lucile was a homemaker, creative and talented seamstress and avid bridge player. In later years she began painting in watercolors and sold many of her paintings. Several years after her husbands death she moved to Redding to be near her family. She was a long-time member of the Methodist Church and was active in the Redding church. In addition, she had been awarded a life-long membership in the Petaluma Women’s Club in honor of her active and dedicated participation. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Hughes, daughter, Margaret Knott and grandson, James Knott. She is survived by her daughter, Lois Hurley of Redding, 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. No services will be held.
