
She was born December 18, 1923, in Berrysburg, W.Va., a daughter of the late Isaac Wesley Ware and Lelah Belle Tenney-Ware.
Mrs. Howes was the consummate homemaker and she dedicated her days to providing a warm, comfortable home for her husband, children and grandchildren.
One of her main interests was gardening.
On March 31, 1976, she obtained a certification in flower arranging and floristry. Oil and pastel painting and playing her organ filled many hours.
She was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church on Ridgewood Drive for 62 years.
On October 4, 1941, she married Robert F. Howes, who survives. Together, they celebrated more than 71 years of marriage.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a sister, Emma Jean Ware-Santee of Pennsylvania; two sons, Dr. Robert E. Howes (Joyce) and Ronald G. Howes (Darlene) of Pennsylvania; a daughter, Pastor Darlene J. Howes Mathieson (Neil) of Virginia; nine grandchildren, Melissa Howes-Vitek (Mark) of Maryland, Dr. Amanda Howes-Foulke (Andrew), Meredith Howes-Lauffer (Justin), Michelle Howes-Lint (Justin), and Ronald Howes II (Jenn) of Pennsylvania, Melinda Howes-Pozzuto (Father Keith) of Texas, Dr. Daniel Gallo (Allison) of Kentucky, Chaplain Matthew Gallo (Erica) of Texas and Valerie Gallo-Jenkins (Jeff) of Virginia; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are three siblings, Margaret Ware-Tenney, Gaylord and Ralph Ware.
Many family friends provided prayers, encouraging conversations, delicious meals and other great outpourings of love during this difficult time. Great-grandson Gregory Ritsko III and nephew James “Jimmy” Dale Howes showed support and assistance whenever and wherever needed.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville. Funeral services will be private and officiated by the Rev. James Markley. Interment will be in Buckingham Cemetery, Deemston Borough. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mount Zion United Methodist Church, 392 Ridgewood Drive, Fredericktown, PA 15333.
