Billy Bruce, 70, of Edmond, died July 18, 1996 in Edmond. He was born in Cordell, Ok. April 16, 1926 to Roy & Lottie Ware. Billy married Katie Ann Hayden, July 30, 1950 in Clinton, Ok. He received a BA from Southwestern State College in 1951 and Masters from OU in 1957. He was a coach & elementary principal in Hinton 1950-54; coach & jr. high principal in Ft. Cobb 1955-60; principal jr. high in Carnegie 1960-61; HS principal & supt. of Hobart schools 1961-69; Ardmore schools supt. 1969-75; and retired as exec. secretary of Teacher’s Retirement 1975-88. Billy was pres. of Secondary Athletic Assoc.; alumni board member for Southwestern State College; served on state board of Okla. State Dept. of Vocational-Technical Education; past president of the Nat’l Teachers Retirement System; served during WWII in the Navy; and was a member of Southern Hills Christian Church. He is survived by his wife, Katie; 2 sons, Billy Ware & wife Leanne of Olathe, Ks, Bobby Ware & wife Leslie of Louisville, Ky; 2 daughters, Anette Pretty & husband William, Susanne Arnett & husband Ralph, all of Norman; 4 brothers, Bob Ware, Coalgate, Ok, Roy Martin Ware, San Diego, Ca, Raymond Ware, Stockton, Ca, Jack Ware, Watonga, Ok; 2 sisters, Marie Collins, El Cajon, Ca, Sar a Ruth Ball, Kerrville, Tx; sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Bonnie & Arch Alexander, Stillwater; brother-in-law, R.V. Hayden, Lindsay, Ok; other-in-law, Katie Hayden, Clinton, Ok; 8 grandchildren, Ben & Alex Arnett, Lyndsie & Peyton Ware, Hayden & Meredith Ware, Bill & Katy Pretty.
