Mr. Clifford C. Ware, age 98, of Rome, formerly of the Riverside Community, passed away Friday, October 24, 2014, in a local health care facility.
Mr. Ware was born in Floyd County, Georgia, on October 11, 1916, son of the late Clarence L. and Ida Elizabeth Shepard Ware. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Lorene Thomas, by a daughter, Karen E. Ware, by a grandson, Richard Timothy “Tim” Ware, Jr., and by a brother, Clyde S. Ware. Mr. Ware was employed with Celanese in Rome for over 25 years prior to closing. Following carpenter work for several years, he retired from Fairbanks in Rome after 14 years of employment. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving with the Army Combat Engineers during World War II. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a son, Richard T. Ware, Sr., and his wife, Teresa, Rome; 2 grandchildren, Allison Breeden, Rome, and Olivia Black, and her husband, David, Centre, AL; 4 great grandchildren, Jeffrey Breeden, and his wife, Carla, Rome, Kayla Breeden, Rome, and Ashley Breeden, Rome, and Breanna Black, Centre, AL; 2 great-great grandchildren, Joshua and Branson Breeden, both of Rome; nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 25, 2014, at 3pm at the graveside in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Alfred Baker officiating. The American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard extended military honors.
