Mr. Elzie Ware, 90, of Jewett, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2013, at his residence in Jewett. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, September 22, 2013, in Jewett Cemetery with Mr. Randy Shelton officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home, but the registry book will be available from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, for those who wish to sign.
On April 27, 1943, Elzie married Georgia Nell Walker. He served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper with the 511th Airborne Division during World War II. Elzie was a former Mayor of the City of Jewett and had a 19 year long career in law enforcement as a Special Texas Ranger for the Southwestern Cattleman’s Association. He also served as a Leon County Deputy Sheriff in the early 1960’s. Elzie was a horse trader and was active in the race horse business for several years, and enjoyed playing baseball and softball. He was an active member of the V.F.W. Post #3542 in Jewett.
Survivors include his wife, Georgia, of Jewett; daughter, Bobbye Sue Bennett and husband, Robert, of Houston; son, Robert Ware and wife, Anne, of Lake Limestone; grandchildren, Elise Watson, of Marquez, Tiffany Kice, of Dallas, Derek Bennett, of Houston, Samantha Adams, of Whitehouse, and Landan Ware, of Jewett; eight great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
