<p id=Charlene Prejean, 85, of Lake Charles, LA passed away on Monday, August 20, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.

Charlene was born on July 16, 1933 in Hannibal, MO, and moved to Lake Charles when she was a young girl. Charlene graduated from Saint Charles Academy in 1951.

Charlene married William “Buddy” Prejean and they were blessed with three children; Leon, Karen and Eva. She had a great love for entertaining and cooking for her family. Sunday meals included her signature dishes of cornbread dressing, chicken and dumplings, and macaroni and cheese.

She was an active member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and volunteered her time by giving Holy Communion to those in need. When she was not cooking for her family, she enjoyed socializing and playing cards alongside her dear friends. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren unconditionally.

Charlene is preceded in death by her husbands; William “Buddy” Prejean of 50 years, and Eddie Austin, Sr., whom she met and married at the sweet age of 80 years young. She is also preceded by her parents, Floyd “Paw” Ware and Mary “Dolly” Ware, three sisters, Ruth Nunez, Nell Fontenot and Margie LeBleu along with an infant son, Mark Prejean.

Charlene is survived by her three children, Leon (Robin) Prejean, Karen (John) Cardone and Eva (Grant) Price; her grandchildren, Blake (Ashley) Price, Brittani (Ben) Stine, Brooke (Turney) Chaumont, John Cardone III, Kristen Cardone, Kathryn Cardone, Danielle (Fred) Clarke, Zachary Prejean, Justin (Brittany) Fontenot and Garret Fontenot; her great-grandchildren; Marleigh George, Emma Kate and William Stine, Everett and Rosemary Ann Price, Dillion and Sawyer Clarke and Jayden and Braizlynn Fontenot, Lennox Fontenot and Layna and Gage Prejean. She also has one more great-grandchild on the way. Charlene also leaves numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church officiated by Father Keith Pellerin. Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
