This afternoon Cleo passed away peacefully in her bedroom surrounded by her family. Cleo was a dear friend, and for many years and a contributor to this website. She would read books about Wares or written by a Ware. You can read her impressions of these books on this website.
She was a dedicated to her community of Garland, Texas, specifically the restoration of the Tinsley-Lyle house, which she contributed many hours trying to make Garland recognize it’s importance to their historical integrity.
She had been a member of DAR, Colonial Dames and other historical societies. She was deeply involved with her own history and genealogy. And that is how we met.
Several years ago she contacted me at the website with questions about her Ware family. After that we would talk about once a month, sharing stories and problem. She would often wish we could visit over a cup of coffee in her kitchen. But circumstances never granted this. Two years ago we did get that opportunity. Her sister-law, brought her here to Colorado and we had our reunion.
Cleo would say to me that she wanted us to be related, but our Ware ancestors were not the same. A couple of years ago my husband was researching his ancestors after he got his DNA results. He was researching a particular Scottish line and the marriage of his ancestor, Sarah McGregor to Roland Ware. I knew of Roland as an ancestor of Cleo’s. I immediately called her and greeted her with “Hi Cousin!” She was overwhelmed. We were related at last!
I will miss her and the closeness of our friendship. I know she is reuniting with her family and all her ancestors. Cleo will be investigating and questioning through eternity.
Such a beautiful tribute. How fortunate to have met and shared a friendship and love. I never got to meet Cleo, not for the lack of trying. We are 3rd cousins, her health and life in general only presented an initial contact between us via email. Cleo sure seemed like an incredible and beautiful spirit!
I wish you peace in the knowing she is with the Lord and with all departed loved ones.
So sorry for the loss of a friend
