“Velda Olson Ware, our beloved mother, wife, and grandmother, age 74, passed away on May 18, 2006 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Velda was born January 21, 1932 in Virginia, Idaho to Olaf LeRoy Olson and Edna Rae Erickson Olson. She was the youngest of six children. She was raised on a dairy farm where she learned to love the beauty of the world. Under the tutelage of her mother she became an accomplished seamstress and cook.
Velda married her high school sweetheart, Alton Maynard Ware, on December 15, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised seven children, four sons and three daughters.
She will be remembered for the warmth of her kitchen as she often baked cookies and cinnamon rolls for her children, their friends, and all those who came to visit.
As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Velda served in many positions in the Primary and Relief Society. She loved the associations she made with others and was a friend to young and old alike.
Velda was a devoted mother, wife, and grandmother. Much of the joy she shared with others was cut short when Parkinson’s Disease and its debilitating effects took hold of her body, for which she suffered for nearly twenty years. Her dear husband never left her side and cared for her daily needs.
Velda is survived by her husband, Alton Maynard Ware; and seven children, Kim (Glennys), Murray; Richard (Suzanne), West Valley City; Diane Owens (Jerry), Midway; Marcene Stevens, Saratoga Springs; Ronald, Logan; Sonja Leek (Brian), Riverton; and Gaylen Ware (Kathy), Payson. She is also survived by a brother, Ralph Olson (Colleen), Downey, Idaho. Velda’s posterity included twenty-eight grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her brothers, Lee Olson and Curtis Olson; her sisters, Edith Olson and Renee Wight; her son-in-law, Dale Stevens; and her grandchildren, Angie Carter, Braiden Warner, and Mason Warner.
A special thanks to Crosslands Rehab Center and Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 22, 2006 at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street (100 East), Murray, Utah. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the funeral services.
