Lucinda Main Ware (1834 – 1918)

“Lucinda was born 19 Aug 1834 in Henry county, Indiana to Grant Main and Miranda Robertson.

She met and married Jesse was in Henry county, Indiana on 29 Nov 1855. Jesse was already living in West Liberty, Howard county, so the newly weds returned to Howard county.

After the death of John Albertson Ware in 1865, Jesse and Lucinda moved to just outside Greentown. Here they lived until Jesse died in 1899.

Lucinda then moved into Greentown on E. Walnut St., and attended the United Methodist Episcopal church, also on E. Walnut St.

Her son with Jesse was named Oliver Morton, b. 1864 in West Liberty. She also bore a daughter Elzina, b. 1873. She died 13 months later. Lucinda also raised a foster son (John Holliday) and foster daughter (Rebecca E. Powell) who was a “Ward” to Jesse.

After Jesse’ death in 1899, Lucinda married Jesse R. Griffin on 11 Dec 1901. He died 6 years later in 1907.

Lucinda passed away on 5 Aug 1918 in Greentown and was buried next to her husband Jesse Ware in the Greenlawn cemetery.”
