“TWO BODIES ARE FOUND IN SHAFT.
EXPLOSION IN MINE NEAR MORANTOWN IS FATAL; DEATH INSTANT.
Morgantown, Jan. 17 — (AP) — Killed in an explosion a mile and a half underground, the bodies of two men, BOYD WARE, 27 years old, and HERBERT PIXLER, 40years old, were removed from the Scott’s Run coal mine of the Shriver Coal company today.
Rescue workers, led by State Mine Inspector William D. Lee, said the victims were instantly killed. Deadly gas spread through the dark chamber whee the victims were found but did not escape to other parts of the workings.
WARE, a foreman, and PIXLER, a fire boss, were the only employees in the mine when the explosion occurred.
Reports of the explosion brought 35 rescue squads from the mining country of western Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia to help, if they were needed. A crowd of between 500 and 1500 stood at the mine while rescue workers sought the bodies. The victims were badly burned and their clothing town away in the explosion.”

Saw your posting of the article describing the mining accident in which Boyd Ware died. Boyd Ware was my great uncle and son of Andrew Jackson Ware and Vinora Coberly Ware, grandson of Adam W. Ware. I don’t know if that helps…I do have pictures of him with other miners prior to the mining accident…
