Mary Smith Dabney Ware (1842 -1933)

“WARE, MARY SMITH DABNEY (MRS. WILLIAM L.): 1842-1933.  The daughter of Augustine L and Elizabeth Smith Dabney, Mary Smith Dabney was born in Raymond Mississippi, 27 December, 1842.  Educated in private schools, she married William L. Ware in 1864.  At the age of seventy she undertook a three-year trip through the Orient, writing of her experiences in The Old World Through Old Eyes; the proceeds of this book she donated to aid the wounded soldiers of France.  She later traveled through Central and Eastern Europe and the Near East and she wrote about her travels in a series of letters under the title of A New World Through Old Eyes.  Mrs. Ware died in Sewanee, Tennessee, in 1933…”
