“The Ware, always large land owners, willed land ‘around Maugus Hill’ as early as 169. Ephraim Ware owned the Sheridan home and land around Rosemary Brook and of Brookside Road. Another branch of the family, Daniel Ware, owned land and built the homestead on Brook Street. Captain Reuben owned the house on Walnut Street now occupied by the Newton Ice Company. Ware property is still owned by the family in Wellesly Hills Square and on Maugus Hill, though not inherited from the original Ware owner.”
