Pat Ware (1855 – 1928)

“Henry Paterson (Pat) Ware was born Oct. 15, 1855 in Springfield Missouri and died Dec. 1, 1928 in Gainseville, Cooke County, Texas.

He married Matilda Ellen Anderson on Jan. 2nd, 1876 in Woodbine, Texas. She was born Sept. 27, 1857 in Fayetteville, Arkansas and died Jan. 28, 1934.  Pat and Matilda had five chidlren.

An unnamed infant was born Sept, 11th, and died only two days later on Sept. 13th, 1879.

Lillie Ware was born Dec. 4th, 1880 and died of consumption on Sept. 22nd, 1897 and is buried in Fairview Cemetery.

Walter H. Ware was born Oct. 18th, 1893 and died May 12th, 1894.  He is also buried at Fairview Cemetery.

Rosa B. Ware was born Jan., 1884 and died Jan. 12th, 1963.  She married George J. Carroll Jr., Dorothy Clarice and Joseph.

Pat and Matilda’s last child was George Pat Ware who was born Jan. 10th, 1891 and died April 11th, 1958.  He married Lillian M. Sweeney Sept. 1st, 1909 and they had one child, James H. Ware born July 21st, 1911.

Pat Ware was first elected Cooke County Sheriff in 1886 and served 9 terms.  Pat Ware was killed by the Katy train at California Street, Gainesville while going to check on an ailing deputy on Dec. 1st, 1928.  His Ford Coupe was dragged about 100 feet and was rolled numerous times, killing him instantly.  He was buried on Dec. 3rd, 1928.  He was so admired and respected that he had on of the longest funeral processions that Gainesville had ever see.  He is buried at Fairview Cemetery, Cooke County, Texas.”
