Hello Vicki and Wayne,
PW Scott’s grandson John Roland Scott passed away last year (in 2012) at 90, and his ashes are buried at Doniphan, Nebraska. I was his son-in-law until my divorce in 1997, and for many years he had been like a second father to me. He told me that Perlee did not like his name, and simply adopted the letters P.W. as a better sounding alternative. John said P.W. never did have a middle name, according to family knowledge. The Nebraska Blue Book may seem authoritative (and it’s great to see a source), but Perlee was born in 1859 according to the census, and P.W.’s father was not directly Irish. P.W. apparently wasn’t above embellishing his history to appeal to immigrant voters, according to John. P.W. was also said to have rebelled against his father’s strictness and left home in his early teens. His father was William Russell Scott, who died in 1899 and is buried in Oskaloosa, IA. I believe P.W.’s daughter’s name was Coryl, but I would have to dig through a lot of boxes and papers to check that point. Pat Saunders has researched the Scott family extensively, and can probably be found easily enough by Googling her and the Scott family on the internet. This is a very pretty website, BTW.
Best regards, Jim Rogers
W Perlee Scott’s wife Jesse Priscilla Ware was a daughter of my g g grandfather, David H Ware. Jesse was born in Silver City, Mills County, Iowa on 14 Aug 1868. They moved to the town of Imperial, Chase County, located in Western Nebraska and their marriage did produce 3 children; Roland A, Cora H and Judson Ware Scott. Jesse died in 1917 and is buried at the Mt Hope Cemetery located in Imperial, Chase County, NE. Glad to see this article Vicki and as usual, it is extremely accurate. Thank you so much for posting it.
