”SOCIETY NOTES.
New Century Hall has been engaged for the Sunday lectures another year.
Mr. Salter gave an address before the National Conference for Good City Government at Baltimore, May 7th.
Mrs. Ware gave an interesting report of some visits she and other members of the Reform Section had made to women’s labor organizations at the May meeting of the Section. She found greater interest and enthusiasm among the Russians and Germans than among English and American women. A strike of children’s jacket makers—for a weekly wage instead of payment by the piece—has succeeded. The chenille workers in Kensington are very poorly organized, the conditions bad and the wages low. Mrs. Ware made an appeal to members to help her in her work of organizing them.
The Young People’s Club had a delightful picnic in Fairmount Park on May 23d.
Prof. H. C. Whitaker has received the degree of Ph. D. from the University of Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Ella Reeve Ware has an article on “Nature Study for Mothers” in the May Babyhood. …”
