Mrs. Laura Lester, 76, pioneer resident of Camas Prairie died Saturday morning at General Hospital where she was taken Thursday following a heart attack.

Born the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Ware, farmers of Southwest City, Missouri on June 23, 1874, Mrs. Lester moved to Texas with her family when a child.  Her father died when she was eight years old and she returned to Southwest City to make her home with her grandparents.  She attended school there and on August 13, 1891 she married John F. Lester.

In 1904, they moved to Baker Oregon where they took up ranching and in 1912 they moved to Camas Prairie and ranched until ill health forced his retirement in 1938.

Mrs. Lester was a member of the Nazarene Church and the Women’s Temperance Union.

She is survived by her husband of Grangeville; four sons, John W. Lester of Grangeville, Kermit R. Lester and Henry A. Lester of both of Pasco, and Urban S. Lester, Cottonwood; two daughters, Mrs. Cora Brasier of Haines, Oregon, and Mrs. Wilmuth L. Williams of Kooskia; one brother, Dick Ware of Los Angeles, California, and a sister, Mrs. Zouri Pollan.   There are also fourteen surviving grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday January 9, at 2 p.m. from the Robertson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. A. F. Twist of the First Church of the Nazarene officiating.  Vocal music was provided by Mrs. Glenn Wasem with Mrs. Earl Yates accompanying.  Pallbearers were William Fortin, Albert Howell, Glenn Wasem, Donald Crea, Lloyd Chadwick and Bill Farr.  Burial was in Prairie View Cemetery.”
