“Mrs. Sarah Anne (Carter) Ware, daughter of Joseph M and America Carter, was born in Polk County, Missouri, July 8, 1876, and departed this life Thursday, June 24, 1954, at her home in Bolivar, MO., after an early stay of 77 years, 11 months and 16 days.

All her life was spent in and around Bolivar, with the exception of seven years, 1916 to 1923, which were spent in Newton County, Missouri.

On Oct. 7, 1894, she was married to Charley L. Ware, and to this union were born eleven children. One daughter, Lena Ellen died Oct. 18, 1913, at the age of ten years. Her husband also preceded her in death, having passed away Feb. 13, 1950.

She is survived by ten children – five sons and five daughters. They are: Hiram Ware of Santa Barbara, Calif.; Otis Ware of Bolivar, MO.; Archie Ware of Atchison, Kan.; Henry Ware of Bolivar, MO.; Ora Ware of Terra Bella, Calif.; Mrs. Ethel Allen of Bolivar, MO.; Mrs. Oma Hatchel of Atchison, Kan.; Mrs., Orpha Wigglesworth of Ventura, Calif.; Mrs. Frances Davolt of Aldrich, MO.; and Mrs. Gladys Hancock of Bolivar, MO.

She is also survived by three brothers, Homer Carter, Emmett Carter, and Ira Carter, all of California; two sisters, Mrs., Viola Buchannan of Dunnegan, MO; and Mrs. Ida Harp of Visalia, Calif.; 23 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Early in life she professed a hope in Christ and in September, 1899, united with Harmony Church of Primitive Baptists near Bolivar. She remained a faithful and devoted member of that body, attending her church meetings regularly as long as she was able to do so. She was an invalid for the last three years, during which she was greatly afflicted, but she endured her afflictions with Christian fortitude and patience to the end. Her seat in the church and her place in the home are vacant, to be filled no more in this life. Her work is done, her suffering o’er, her weeping past. We look forward to meeting her again, beyond the reach of pain and death.

Asleep in Jesus, blessed sleep,
From which none ever wake to weep;
A Calm and undisturbed repose,
Unbroken by the last of foes.

The funeral services were held at Barren Creek Church west of Bolivar at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon, June 28, with Elder Tom Scroggins officiating. Burial was in Barren Creek Cemetery under direction of the Erwin & Blue Funeral Home of Bolivar.”
