Paulus M. Ware (1839 – 1928)

“Paulus (McDaniel or Massie) Ware was married to Eleanor Elizabeth Hudson Ware. She was the daughter of William Hudson and Eleanor Harvey. Paulus and Eleanor Ware had seven children: Wilkerson Linwood Ware, William Thomas Ware, James Edgar Ware, Annie May Ware, Harvey Bledsoe Ware, Bessie Eleanor Ware, and Howard Early Ware. Paulus served in the Confederate Army for four years, was wounded and became a Prisoner of War (POW) at Gettysburg. He was released and captured again 2 months prior to the end of the War. His brother, Robert Ware, also served in the Confederate Army and died at Gettysburg on 3 July 1863.”

“WARE, PAUL MASSIE: Pvt.; Co. I 8/6/61, Centreville. Pres. til wded. Darbytown 6/30/62. POW Gettysburg 7/15/63 in hosp. near Gettysburg. Baltimore, Md. to Pt. Lookout 8/20/63 paroled there to City Pt. for exchange 3/16/64; POW Hatchers Run 4/2/65; City Pt. to Pt. Lookout 4/13/65. Released there 6/22/65. Res. Amherst Co., dk. complex., brn. hair, blue eyes, 5′ 9″. 1910 census, Amherst, age 72. d. 5/22/1928, bur. Amherst City Cem. Pension 1922. Widow Maggie, pension 1928.”
