“Rose Mae Simmons Ware, 90, a former resident of Valley Head and a patient in the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center for the past several years, passed away early Tuesday, June 15, 2010, in the center.

Mrs. Ware was born April 30, 1920, at Valley Head, a daughter of the late Clinton N. and Mary Susie Arbogast Channell.

On Aug. 14, 1937, she married Amos Allman Simmons who preceded her in death in November 1949. She later married Arnal Monroe Ware, who also preceded her in death in 1969.

She is survived by two sons, the Rev. Verl Simmons and wife, Carolyne, of Valley Head and Arnett Simmons of Valley Head; one daughter, Mrs. Michael (Rose Marie Ware) Arbogast of Valley Head; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Cleo (Edna Simmons) Butcher of Lost Creek; six granddaughters, Cheryl Simmons Samples of Valley Head, Karen Simmons Carrigan of Cocoa, Florida, Melinda Simmons Hamrick of Beverly, Kelly Simmons Queen of Durbin, Amy Arbogast Hutzell of Dailey and Lori Arbogast of Elkins; six stepgranddaughters, Sheila Channell Hawkins, Donna Tucker Patrick, Carolyn Butcher Romaine, Connie Butcher Hobbs, Mary Butcher Summerfield and Patty Butcher; three grandsons, Timothy and Eric Simmons and Brian Arbogast, all of Valley Head; seven stepgrandsons, Orville Channell, Dennis and Kevin Tucker, Kent Simmons, Lynn Butcher, Rex and Kevin Smith; 11 great-grandchildren, Miranda Samples Lambert, Jessica Samples, Cheyenne Arbogast, and Matthew Samples, all of Valley Head, Justin Kyle of Valley Bend, Noah and Bryant Hamrick of Beverly, Sarah Simmons and Steven Queen of Valley Head and Kalen and Haydon Hutzell of Dailey; two stepgreat-granddaughters, Crystal Smith Conrad of Valley Bend and Kasey Smith of Mill Cree and one stepgreat-grandson, Rex Wilt of Mill Creek. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, James, Edward and Leo Channel, and four other siblings who died at birth; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Ruth Simmons Channel and Mrs. Rella Simmons Tucker; one stepson, Troy Simmons; three stepgrandsons, Roger Channell, Larry and Don Butcher; and one greatgrandson, Philip Michael Samples.

Mrs. Ware was a homemaker and attended Point Mountain Church where she was the song leader. She enjoyed riding the senior van, coordinating riders for the van and visiting friends.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, June 18, from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley and the Rev. Ann Fretwell officiating. Interment will following in Marple Cemetery at Valley Head. Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Rose Mae Simmons Ware.”
